    Siquijor is a tiny island province that is commonly associated with mystic traditions.
    Aside from the reputation as a place of magic and sorcery, Siquijor is also famous for great diving, waterfalls, caves and beaches.

    According to a legend,  Siquijor Island rose from the depths of the ocean’s womb after a massive storm.


    Siquijodnons are friendly and hospitable people. However, they are very superstitious and many practice ‘white magic’.


    Siquijor was occupied by the Spaniards in the 16th century. The Spaniards, however, called it Isla de Fuego or island of fire because of the eerie luminescence generated by the swarms of fireflies found in the island.


    Siquijor has a Tropical monsoon climate


    While Siquijor’s mysteriousness is a draw to foreigners, Filipino tourists consider this island too ‘spooky’.


    The easiest way to get to Siquijor is by boat from Dumaguete. There are also ferries from Cebu and Bohol.

    • Siquijor’s Beaches – You can explore the numerous pristine white sand beaches that make up most of Siquijor Island’s shoreline.

     

    • Old Enchanted Balete Tree – Because of its eerie outline created by hundreds of roots and vines hanging down, the tree is believed to be enchanted.

     

    • Cambugahay Falls – Cambugay falls is the only enchanted falls in the island. See its several levels of waterfalls and enjoy its cool and refreshing waters. Secluded and relatively unexplored, the waterfalls surely invite trekkers for a refreshing dip.

     

    • Tulapos Marine Sanctuary – Being the biggest of the several marine sanctuaries, Tulapos marine sanctuary contains abundant species of fish, corals and other underwater life.

     

    • Cantabon Cave – Being the most famous of Siquijor’s over 45caves. Cantabon cave’s long, winding and difficult trek is both a challenge and a delight to any spelunker. Inside the cave a subterranean stream and beautiful stalactites and stalagmites abound the cave’s huge chambers

    When to go:

    Siquijor has a tropical climate and can be enjoyed any time of year.

    The summer season from March to May is the best time to visit Siquijor Island. Try to avoid the months from June to October because it’s the rainy season.

    The Holy Week in April is the time when the traditional healers and witch doctors from all over the Philippines gather in the town of San Antonio for the Lenten Festival of Herbal Preparation.

    Getting there:

    By Plane

    -There is no airport on the island of Siquijor. The nearest airport is located in Dumaguete.

     

    By Ferry

    -From Dumaguete catch a local ferry to Siquijor (travel time approximately 1 hour).

    Alternatively, catch the ferry from Cebu, Tagbilaran-Bohol and Iligan.

    Where to stay

    The beach resorts in Siquijor Island have a laid-back provincial feel. Don’t expect luxury hotels in Siquijor.
