You will get the chance to see ultramafic rocks and forest characteristics of most mountains in Palawan. From the mountain’s may viewpoints, you can get the chance to see its rich wildlife which is composed of eagles, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, and many other avian species.
Palawan is known for being one of the last hiking frontiers in the Philippines, but you do not need to go far to experience what this beautiful island offers. Mt. Bahile is one of the examples of its wonder which is extremely near to the city proper. It is located only 30 kilometers from the city proper of Puerto Princesa which makes it one of the closest mountains to the airport; therefore, making it a good candidate for a day hike for those who are traveling in Palawan.
Mt. Bahile is a “little-explored” mountain where hikers must brace for rattan thorns in some portions of the trail. However, the hike is very rewarding because of the jaw-dropping views it offers. You will get the chance to see ultramafic rocks and forest characteristics of most mountains in Palawan.
From the mountain’s may viewpoints, you can get the chance to see its wildlife which is composed of eagles, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, and many other avian species. During the trek, you may also spot many animals that live freely in the wild. Because of its location, the scenery is fantastic.
From Mt. Bahile, you will be able to see Palawan’s most slender area which separates Sulu Sea (separated by Honda Bay) from the South China Sea (separated by Ulugan Bay). At the summit, you will see Cleopatra’s Needle – the monarch of Puerto Princesa’s peaks stands proudly to its north.
While on a clear day, you will get the chance to appreciate the cluster of Thumbpeak and Beaufort. Mt. Tapyas, on the other hand, looms to the northwest of Mt. Bahile; inviting hikers to attempt a traverse in what promises to be another exciting hike in Palawan.
