Exotic Island
Exotic Island is one of Port Barton’s most picturesque stops, made up of two small islands separated by a narrow channel of shallow, crystal-clear water. Depending on the tide, visitors can swim or wade between the two islands, creating the feeling of a natural “Double Island”.
The calm, shallow waters are ideal for swimming and relaxed snorkelling, with colourful tropical fish and coral around the island. The white-sand beach also makes it a lovely spot to sunbathe, unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

German Island
German Island, now officially known as Inaladelan Island, is a privately owned island and one of the popular stops around Port Barton. Its white-sand beach and clear waters make it a lovely place to relax, while coral reefs just offshore provide good snorkelling opportunities.
Swim a little further from the beach and you can see colourful schools of fish, coral gardens and, if you’re lucky, sea turtles. The island is also close to one of Port Barton’s known turtle-spotting areas
Paradise Island
Paradise Island is a quiet and secluded stop, with caretakers looking after the island and its surrounding reef.
The reef was previously affected by destructive fishing and other environmental damage, but has gradually recovered. One of its highlights is the large fan corals, along with the colourful marine life around the reef, making it a worthwhile stop for snorkelling enthusiasts.

Papuwyan Waterfalls
Papuwyan Waterfalls is a hidden gem in the lush jungle of Port Barton, reached by a scenic 1.5-hour hike from town. The trail has mostly gentle slopes, making it an easy and enjoyable walk.
Along the way, you’ll cross several shallow streams, so comfortable footwear that can get wet is recommended.
At the end of the trail, you’ll find a beautiful waterfall cascading into clear natural pools, perfect for a refreshing swim. The peaceful jungle setting makes Papuwyan a rewarding escape from the more popular attractions.
Bigaho Waterfall
Bigaho Waterfall is a beautiful natural attraction just a short boat ride from Port Barton. After a 20-minute boat ride and an easy one-kilometre walk from Bigaho village, you’ll reach a picturesque waterfall flowing into a large natural pool.
The walk is suitable for all ages, with no difficult trekking or climbing. The final 100 metres are reached via stone steps through lush jungle.
The cool pool is ideal for a refreshing swim, while the peaceful surroundings offer a welcome escape from the busier island-hopping spots. Bring swimwear and a towel.

Best Snorkeling Sites
Twin Reef
Twin Reef is one of Port Barton’s most popular snorkelling spots, with shallow, clear waters that make it suitable for both beginners and experienced snorkellers. The reef is covered with colourful hard and soft corals and home to clownfish, sea anemones and a variety of tropical reef fish. The excellent visibility and abundant marine life make it a great all-round snorkelling site.
Fantastic Reef
Fantastic Reef offers deeper and more varied underwater scenery than Twin Reef. Its clear waters reveal colourful purple, orange and green corals surrounded by schools of tropical fish. The deeper reef and excellent visibility also make it particularly enjoyable for underwater photography and exploring larger coral formations.
Starfish Island
Starfish Island is a shallow sandbar surrounded by clear turquoise water and is known for the chocolate-chip starfish scattered across its sandy seabed. The shallow conditions make it ideal for relaxed snorkelling and wading. Visitors should avoid touching or removing the starfish from the water to protect them.
Turtle Spot
Located near Inaladelan (German) Island and Maxima Island, Turtle Spot is known for encounters with wild green sea turtles. The turtles often feed on the seagrass beds in the calm, shallow waters, allowing snorkellers to observe them from the surface.
