    Moalboal

    One of the best diving spot in the Philippines

    This small municipality in the province in Cebu is a gateway to some of the best diving spots in the Philippines. One of them is Pescador Island home to hammerhead sharks and the famous sardine run – a natural phenomenon where large school of sardines creates an amazing spectacle.

    How to get there:

    The easiest way to reach Moalboal is from Cebu City. It’s located three hours drive from Cebu City.

    It’s also possible to reach Moalboal via Dumaguete. From Dumaguete you need to reach Sibulan Port and take the ferry to Bato then continue overland to Moalboal.

    When to go

    High season – from December to May. Christmas, New Year and Easter are the most busiest times of the year.


    Low Season/Rainy Season –  From June to November

    At first glance, Moalboal seems to be a sleepy town, but it serves as an excel base for diving and exploring the surrounding area. Moalboal is the ultimate diving paradise with unspoiled white sand beaches and diverse marine life.

    Panagsama Beach is the haven for scuba diving enthusiasts. This stretch of sand not far from Moalboal town is also home to many hotels, dive centers and restaurants.

    Pescador Island is the pinnacle of a submarine mountain which is accessed via a 30min bangka ride from from Moalboal. The island is renowned for its steep walls, crystal visibility and swirling sardine shoals. Pescador Island is also home to pelagic fish, including reef sharks and hammerheads.
    Pescador Island is ideal for scuba diving, snorkeling and freediving.

    The pride of Moalboal is the spectacular Sardine Run –a dense column of schooling sardine which forms incredible geometric shapes 5m to 10m under the surface.
    Right at the reef drop-off in Panagsama Beach million sardines congregate all year-round.
    If you are lucky, you can get to see predators feeding on the sardines including jacks, tunas and thresher sharks

    Panagsama Beach is usually crowded with tourists and divers, so for those looking for a quieter option, White Beach is an alternative.
    This nice white sandy beach may be preferable if sunbathing and swimming, rather than diving. It’s the ideal place for beachgoers.

    Turtle Point is home to a large population of marine turtles. Here you can get a chance to swim with these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat.

    Moalboal is also the base for other activities, like canyoneering and whaleshark watching in Oslob.

    The Panagsama Beach is where tourists usually stay in Moalboal. Panagsama Beach is home to variety of hotels and dive shops. As of now, there aren’t any luxury resorts/hotels in Moalboal.
