TAYTAY NORTHERN PALAWAN

Taytay is the former capital of Palawan also known as the Star of the North or Estrella del Norte. A first class minucipality located in northern part of Palawan Island. Taytay is pronounced as “tye-tye” meaning “bye bye”. The municipality goes by the same name as town, as is common for Palaweños. Locals will refer to the capital as Poblacion. Taytay is an old Spanish town founded in 1623. Its distinguished by most famous relic of the colonial history - the thick walls of 17th century Fort Santa Isabelle also known for its original name Fuerza de Santa Isabel, which still stands today and takes center stage in Taytay’s magnificent seascape. The community called it “Kuta” because during Spanish time, it serves as shield guarded the ancient community against attacks from Moro pirates. In our present time, Kuta is now a park which is open for everybody. Inside Kuta is a well-maintained grazzy garden and sweeping views of the bay.

The majority of the tourists stay here only for one night. This is just usually to break up their journey from/to El Nido from/to Puerto Princesa city. For interested visitors, you may consider a stay in Taytay as part of your Palawan vacation. There are lots for the tourist to do here - island-hopping, snorkeling around the many islands, swimming in the hidden lagoon (cave), kayaking on the beautiful Lake Manguao, Irrawaddy Dolphin watching in Malampaya Sound, and swimming in the refreshing Canique Waterfall, feel comfortable while walking on boardwalk in the pleasing environment of Magroves. Being not far from El Nido, Taytay is a good escape from the El Nido crowd during the peak seasons. Taytay is about one and a half hour's drive from El Nido - you will pass through it if you are traveling by road to El Nido.
